For any organisation operating at scale, governance isn't just a nice-to-have, it is the backbone of a healthy data environment. For the past two years, our team relied on a Power Shell Rest API based scripts, scheduled to run locally, to extract our Power BI tenant logs. It worked, but it wasn't efficient. We often miss logs when the laptop was not awake on a scheduled time. At the end of 2025, we took a major leap forward. We deployed Fabric Unified Admin Monitoring (FUAM), a comprehensive solution designed to centralise admin governance and monitoring within Microsoft Fabric. Here is a look at our deployment experience, the technical "gotchas" we faced, and how we customised the solution to build a truly robust monitoring capability. What is FUAM? For those unaware, FUAM (Fabric Unified Admin Monitoring) is a community-driven solution accelerator. It isn't just a report; it's a data application built natively on Fabric components - Pipelines, Notebooks, and Lakehouses. It extracts granular data on tenant settings, user activities, and capacity usage, solving the common "30-day retention limit" problem by building a permanent historical log. We appended our old historic data of last 2 years to get the insights for even longer periods. The Deployment Experience The initial deployment was surprisingly smooth. The solution is designed to be deployed via a single notebook: Deploy_FUAM. We executed this notebook, and it automatically provisioned the necessary artifacts (Lakehouses, Pipelines, Semantic Models) directly in our workspace. To ensure secure and automated access, we authenticated our connections using a Service Principal. This allows the extraction pipelines to run reliably in the background without tying them to an individual user's credentials. The "Gotcha": The Domain Unit Error While the setup was 90% smooth, we hit one specific snag that is worth sharing for anyone else attempting this. During the execution of the pipelines in FUAM version 2026.1.1 , the process failed on the data pipeline. Specifically, the notebook responsible for 01_Transfer_Domains_Unit failed to execute. The Root Cause: After investigating the logs, we discovered the code was strictly expecting subdomains. Our tenant setup initially didn't match this pattern perfectly, causing the script to error out. The Fix: We resolved this by creating a "dummy" sample domain that included a subdomain in our Fabric environment. Once this structure existed, the notebook logic was satisfied, the script executed successfully, and the pipeline completed. Customisation and Scheduling We have now scheduled the extraction pipeline to run daily. This creates an incremental load strategy that retains all historic capacity usage and log data, giving us a trend line that extends far beyond the default retention periods. However, we didn't stop at the default offering. To match the specific needs of our use, we customised the FUAM_Core_Report:
The Result: A Comprehensive Governance Hub The outcome has been a game-changer. We moved from local exports to a fully automated, "set-it-and-forget-it" backend with a beautiful front end. If you are still manually exporting audit logs, I highly recommend looking into FUAM. It has transformed our governance from a reactive chore into a proactive strategy. About Accent Fairchild Founded in 1974 and based in Quebec, Accent-Fairchild Group is Canada’s premier manufacturer and distributor of home and housewares products and Canadian partner to some of the world’s most respected homeware brands. How Accent Fairchild used Blue Sky ERP’s Power BI suite to drive smarter selling and democratize data In the fast-paced world of manufacturing and distribution, having instant access to reliable data can make all the difference. For Accent Fairchild, a Quebec-based manufacturer known as a dependable, value-add partner for Canadian retailers, gaining visibility into sales performance and customer trends was a strategic priority. That's why the company turned to Blue Sky ERP’s standard Power BI reporting suite for Epicor ERP—a game-changer that’s helping them see their business more clearly and make better decisions, faster. From Trial and Error to Data-Driven Decisions Before Power BI, Accent Fairchild relied on manually configured reports, which lacked dynamic capabilities critical for smart data analysis. They tried several other reporting tools, but none seemed to offer the intelligent reporting views, integrations, or a quick path to deployment that Blue Sky’s solutions offer. Now, with Blue Sky ERP’s prebuilt Power BI reports, the sales team can instantly view key performance indicators like:
Dynamic Data for a Dynamic Market The Power BI Sales Report in particular has become the cornerstone of sales analytics, providing insights into the data that were previously unavailable, thanks to new slicers and filters, multi-report views. With visual dashboards accessible from any device, reps and managers alike are aligned on what’s happening. “Being able to dynamically view, compare, and manipulate data instantaneously and easily allows us the flexibility to make quick decisions, which is critical in a fast-paced environment like ours,” says Galit Zeira. “That has changed how we plan, prioritize, and perform.” The team can easily drill down to see who’s buying what, identify at-risk accounts, or spot upselling opportunities—turning raw data into revenue-generating insight. Empowering More Than Just Sales Although sales was the initial focus, the impact of the Power BI rollout has extended across departments. With secure, role-based access to dashboards, team members—from operations to finance—now have data at their fingertips. This democratization of data is a major cultural shift for the company. “It’s not just the analysts or IT folks who have access anymore,” notes Galit Zeira. “Power BI has made data something everyone can use—not just understand, but act on.” Built for Epicor. Customized for Growth. Because the reports were designed specifically for Epicor ERP, implementation was quick and smooth. Blue Sky ERP’s Power BI suite plugs directly into Epicor’s data model, saving Accent Fairchild months of development time. And as the company grows, the flexibility of Power BI means new reports and KPIs can be added with ease—no need to reinvent the wheel. Looking Ahead Accent Fairchild is just getting started. With new insights fuelling strategic conversations across the business, the company is exploring additional dashboards for inventory, production, and customer service. But for now, the biggest win is clear: “We’re not chasing reports anymore—we’re chasing results,” says the Nathaniel Port CFO. |
